America was founded on the ideals of freedom and democracy. Freedom has not come easily or swiftly but has been achieved by those who were by those willing to fight and die for it. From the revolutionary war to the civil rights movement Americans have continued to move in the way of freedom and equality to fight for opportunity for all. Americans cannot be guaranteed life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness without freedom and opportunity.

Now when we are faced with adversity and oppression with few exceptions Americans today respond with apathy not vigor. We lie down and allow our constitutional rights to be mulled over. We all know the quote “First they came for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up, because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me.” Still we maintain a hands-off political philosophy where we rarely get involved. When we are involved it is often to a limited extent with limited information.

Because we are not involved we are not forced to take responsibility. We blame banks and lenders for the mortgage crisis. The mortgage crisis, oil prices and slowing sales for the recession. George Bush for the war. TV and video games for the problems with our youth. When I wonder, are we as individuals and as a country going to stand up and take responsibility? WHEN ARE WE GOING TO FIGHT BACK? Now! Now is the time you see it happening coalescing around you here and now.

There are fundamental flaws in our political, social and economic systems. The biggest problem is the apathetic people, which comprise it. The system will not be fixed until we fix it. We cannot give all of our money, powers and resources away to someone else and then expect them to fix everything while we sit complacent. The time to stand up and speak up is now.

We will loose our country and our rights unless we fight to maintain them. The time for democracy is now. The time for freedom is now. We are the people, we are uniting, and we will not be defeated. Power to the people.
